Ensuring that all avionics are functioning properly onboard an aircraft is a critical component of maintaining airworthiness. Given its role in measuring airspeed, altitude, and vertical speed, a functioning pitot-static system is paramount to proper navigation. Air data test sets, or pitot-static test sets, simulate pressure and vacuum conditions created by various airspeeds and altitudes, which the tester can program on the test set through the user interface., If the tester has the set connected to the pitot-static system on the aircraft, and calibrates the set to 150 miles per hour and five thousand feet of altitude, the aircraft’s instruments should display the same information. Pitot-static test sets can also test for leaks in the pitot-static system.

For ensuring that an aircraft’s transponders are working properly, transponder test equipment exists. These pieces of equipment simulate the transmission of a ground-based signal and assess the response of the transponder being tested.
