About DaimlerChrysler
Daimler Chrysler came into existence in 1998 through the merger of major automotive companies Daimler-Benz and Chrysler Corporation. The formation of Daimler-Benz was set in motion in 1924 following an Agreement of Mutual Interest between Benz & Cie and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft. The two companies continued to manufacture separate automobiles until 1926 when the two formally combined to become Daimler-Benz AG.
The Chrysler Corporation was founded in June of 1925 when the Maxwell Motor Company was re-shuffled into the Chrysler Corporation. In 1928, the company began dividing its vehicles by class and function. Chrysler subsidiary Plymouth was conceived and became the affordable choice while the DeSoto brand entered the average-priced field. Both Daimler-Benz and Chrysler saw great success and consistent growth throughout the remainder of the 20th century. The two companies came together in 1998 to safeguard the long-term success and competitiveness of both brands.
