About Southco

Southco’s roots lie with the South Chester Tube Company, which was founded in 1899 as a manufacturer of tubing pipes, and couplings used in the burgeoning petroleum industry in the United States. In 1945, the South Chester Corporation began to manufacture specialty fasteners in Essington, Pennsylvania, and registered the Southco name in the same year. Five years later, Southco opened a facility in Lester, Pennsylvania to match the company’s growth, and expanded even further in 1965 by opening more manufacturing facilities in Concordville, Pennsylvania and Honeoye Falls, New York.

In 1974, Southco transferred its corporate offices to the Concordville facility, while continuing to grow and expand. In 1983, Southco began international operations with acquisitions in the United Kingdom and Germany, soon followed by further acquisitions in Italy, Spain, and France to set up Southco’s European sales force. In 1988, Southco expanded its product line by acquiring the Simmons Fastener Company and Thermo Products. During the 1990s and early 2000s, Southco slowly opened up the Asian market, first with a facility in Melbourne, Australia and a partnership with NBK, and later by opening a sales office in South Korea, and a regional headquarters in Hong Kong. In 2004 and 2005, Southco opened or acquired multiple facilities in China, including Fu Yong, Shi Han, and Shanghai, as well as acquiring CEMA Technologies in Audubon, Pennsylvania. More facilities in Pune, India, and Chihuahua, Mexico were opened in 2008, and in 2011 the Fu Yong and Shanghai were consolidated into a single facility at Shenzhen, China.

Today, Southco manufactures access control hardware for the automotive, computer, HVAC, industrial machinery, marine, medical, defense, and telecom industries.

Products, Services, and Platforms

• Latching Solutions: Southco latching solutions include cam latches, compression latches, push-to-close latches, rotary latch systems, and draw latches. It also includes entry door latches and that come in both swing and sliding action configurations.
• Locking Solutions: This division includes a variety of electronic locking options and methods, as well as wireless access controls, actuators, and accessories.
• Hinges: Southco produces a wide variety of hinges, including external, embedded, counterbalance, concealed, and door stays.
• Fasteners: This division includes quarter-turn fasteners, fast lead captive screws, spring-loaded plungers, swell action latches, LOCKWELL pins and receptacles, panel fasteners, slide latches, rivets, and screws.
• Display Mounts: Southco-manufactured display mounts come in tilt, swivel, swing, dual extension, vertically articulating, and several combinations of those configurations.
• LIFT-A-SYST Solutions: LIFT-A-SYST is a mechanical system designed to help with lifting, maneuvering, and securing heavy doors and panels by a single individual, rather than requiring an entire team’s effort.
