About ETA

ETA was formed in Altdorf, Germany in 1948 under the name ELPO GmbH by Jakob Ellenberger and Harald A. Poensgen. The company’s first product was released in 1953 when ETA launched their circuit breakers for the first time. They expanded before the company was even a decade old - establishing a subsidiary in the U.S in 1955 and in Canada in 1957. 1961 brought the opening of ETA’s manufacturing plant in Hohenfels, Germany. The growing electronics market led the company to create an electronics division in 1969, with a focus on innovation in protection and control technology. In 1976, ETA Circuit Breakers Ltd. was established in the U.K., and a year later the company expanded yet again, this time into Tunisia. ETA founded a new wing in 1978, ETA Elektrotechnische Apparate GmbH. The 1980s were a period of great success and steady growth, forming subsidiaries in Austria, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and France.

In 1991, increased production necessitated an expansion of manufacturing capabilities, resulting in the construction of a new plant in Altdorf. Two years later the company received its ISO 9001 Certification, and 1994 brought a new challenge as ETA expanded to Japan. To serve the fast-growing South East Asian market, ETA opened a manufacturing plant in Indonesia in 1997. ETA received DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and DIN EN 9100 certifications in 2002, and ISO/TS 16949:2002 in 2006. 2010 saw the company usher in a new means of production, the fully automated assembly line for miniaturized automotive circuit breakers. In 2015, ETA created a modern SMD pick-and-place machine for the production of printed circuit boards required for ETA products.

• Circuit Protection Devices: ETA designs and produces a wide range of circuit protection devices including thermal & thermal-magnetic overcurrent circuit breakers, magnetic & hydraulic-magnetic overcurrent circuit breakers, high performance circuit breakers, and electronic overcurrent protection devices.

• Relays & Solid State Remote Power Controllers: ETA offers solid state relays and remote power controllers, power relays, and relay configurators.

• Power Management Systems: Among the power management systems offered by ETA are DIN rail mount power distribution systems, rack mount power management systems, and customized power management system designs.

• PowerPlex Digital Switching Systems: ETA provides a range of PowerPlex digital switching systems for boats, mobile homes, and caravans. PowerPlex is a fully integrated alternative to traditional onboard distribution and electrical systems.

• Battery Isolation Switches: ETA offers battery isolation switches with a range of mounting versions, toggle actuation, screw terminals, and more. They are resistant to shock, vibration, mist, humidity, and similar factors. The contact design is highly reliable and unsusceptible to welding.
