About EJ

EJ, formerly known as East Jordan Iron Works, is a manufacturer and distributor of iron construction castings, also known as municipal castings, and infrastructure access products around the world. The company was established in East Jordan, Michigan in 1883 by William Malpass and his father-in-law, Richard Round. It was started with the intention of servicing the logging industry in East Jordan and the surrounding Northern Michigan area. In its early years of operation, EJ manufactured castings for critical components such as machine parts, ship parts, agricultural uses, and railroads.

In the 1920s, lumber operations began to decrease as a result of the Great Depression. By the beginning of WWII, the lumbering industry had essentially left the area altogether, and East Jordan Iron Works shifted large-scale production efforts to street castings, water works valves, fire hydrants, and materials needed for the war effort. In 2012, the company consolidated multiple holdings under a single brand, and changed its name to EJ. Today, EJ operates four foundries in Michigan, Oklahoma, Ireland, and France, and supplies products to infrastructure projects all over the world.

Products

• Access Covers, Grates, and Frames: EJ’s primary focus is the production and sales of manhole access covers and frames, drainage gates, linear trench drainage gates, junction boxes, and cleanout/monument boxes, typically used in municipal infrastructure.
• Access Hatches: This division includes square and rectangular access hatches for industrial and civil engineering projects, and can come in modular solutions for customizability and alterable configurations.
• Adjustment Risers: EJ produces riser rings that adjust manholes and catch basins to final grade, and are made from steel, cast iron, or rubber depending on the end-user needs.
• Water Distributions: This division includes fire hydrants, valves, meter boxes, and other types of water systems equipment that distribute and regulate flow.
• Streetscapes and Urban Design: This includes tree grates, designer trench drainage gates, and detectable warning plates designed for public areas such as parks and sidewalks.
