About CFM International

CFM International represents a joint venture between GE Aviation (a division of General Electric) and Safran Aircraft Engines that was formed in 1974. Safran Engines was formerly known as Snecma; moreover, they are a subsidiary of Safran Group of France and Engine Alliance, LLC. The former is jointly owned by General Electric and the Pratt & Whitney division of United Technologies Corporation.  CFM International develops and manufactures LEAP and CFM56 turbofan engines for business, commercial, general, and military aviation markets. Through their parent companies, CFM International offers MRO services and support services at various global facilities. The company is best known for its association with Boeing aircraft.

• LEAP Engine

The LEAP engine is CFM’s next-gen high bypass ratio turbofan powerplant for single-aisle aircraft. All variants of the LEAP engine integrate one fan, three low-pressure compressor stages, and ten high-pressure compressor stages. The engine’s core; comprising of the combustor, high-pressure compressor, and turbine, is designed by GE Aviation. The fan, low-pressure compressor, compressor turbine, and the accessory gearbox are designed by Safran Aircraft Engines.

• CFM56 Engine

The CFM56 engine is a high bypass ratio turbofan powerplant for single-aisle aircraft. Each variation of the engine integrates one fan, four low-pressure compressors, and nine high-pressure compressors; additionally, each variation integrates one low-pressure turbine stage and four high-pressure turbine stages. Similarly, to the manufacturing and design of the LEAP engine, GE designs the high-pressure compressor, high-pressure turbine, combustor. The fan, accessory gearbox, low-pressure compressor, and compressor turbine are designed by Safran Aircraft Engines.
